Education
  • Our aim is to give a balanced education which prepares the children to lead independent and fulfilling lives.
  • This includes a strong school education, cultural and extra curricular activities, helping around the home and interacting with volunteers from diverse backgrounds, thus broadening the children’s perspectives.
Happiness
  • Family is at the heart of LBU. Many children are siblings and the house manager lives with his family and other staff in the house. The children rely on each other as brothers and sisters.
  • Each child is encouraged to develop their own interests, so they are respected as individuals and develop self-esteem.
  • The children also interact with the local community and the other LBU house, which is nearby.

Environment















In Nepal
  • Environmental footprints in Nepal tend to be considerably smaller than in the West, by the very nature of the way Nepalese live.
  • Shopping is done at local markets and the children get to school using public transport.
  • Solar panels provide all the hot water for LBU and children are taught about conserving energy in the home.
  • Most of the children’s clothes are from donations, delivered by volunteers and trustees.
  • The children are developing sewing skills. They have made canvas bags so that they don't use plastic ones when space in their school bag runs out.
In the UK
  • Communication in the UK is mainly electronic and the annual fundraiser is held in central London, where our network is strongest. We provide our own home-cooked food.
  • Volunteers have taken part in sports activities, promoting well being while fundraising for CAN.
 

Economics







  • Administration costs are donated by the trustees and all costs are made transparent on the website.
  • Sponsors are regularly updated on CAN and the children through events, newsletters, the website and our Facebook page.
  • The children accompany the house staff to markets to understand the costs associated with running a home and how to bargain and choose the best quality of food.
  • CAN seeks to maintain enough funds to cover the needs of LBU for more than one year, helping to ensure long term success.
