All our trustees are volunteers working tirelessly to raise funds, raise awareness of orphans in Nepal and help the children directly. They are all helping fund the administrative costs of the charity and most of them are sponsoring some of our children.
Founder LBU, Co-Founder CAN
Florence established LBU in 2002 after volunteering in an orphanage in Kathmandu. She funded the home herself for a year and then established CAN in London with Simon Yun-Farmbrough. Today, Florence is a full-time headhunter in the City, where she used to work for many years as an investment banker. She oversees the management of the orphanage very closely as well as fundraising for CAN. Florence visits the children three to four times a year and is very close to them.
Treasurer, Co-Founder CAN
Simon established CAN in London in 2003 with Florence whom he had known for some years when she was an investment banker. He is an adviser to a number of growth financial technology businesses, and a founder of corporate finance advisory firm Fenchurch Advisory Partners where he is a Senior Adviser. Formerly, he was a partner of the Boston Consulting Group, and Director of Strategy at Prudential plc. Simon is also a Governor of the University of Bedfordshire and a member of the Investment Committee of the Royal Society.
Trustee, Schools and Volunteers Liaison and Editor
Colleen has travelled widely during her career in news and broadcasting. She spent six weeks in Kathmandu in 2010 with the children and staff of LBU, videoing and photographing life inside the homes as well as the poverty outside. The appalling conditions endured by street children sleeping rough in the capital left a deep impression. Having personally witnessed Child Action Nepal's valuable work rescuing and supporting children at risk, she volunteered as a trustee.
Trustee, Sports Events and Fundraising
Franco became a trustee of CAN after completing an amazing fundraising trip by motorbike from Siena, Italy, to Kathmandu and volunteering for one month at LBU in 2010. Since then, he has become one of our biggest fundraisers and travels regularly to Kathmandu where he is also the sponsor of one of our children. Franco is a broker in the City and has a number of other business interests.
Trustee, European Fundraising
Laure has been the financial sponsor of one of the LBU 2 children since 2009. She regularly visits the children in Kathmandu and volunteered as a CAN trustee in 2013. She is involved in fundraising activities in France and Luxembourg. She is Chief Operating Officer and member of the Board of Directors of BGL BNP Paribas. She has spent her whole career in finance at Société Générale and BNP Paribas. As former President and founder of the BNP Paribas women’s association, MixCity, she is also an active advocate of diversity and gender equality.
David Gateley MA FRCS FRCS (Plast)
David became a trustee of CAN after we asked him to perform plastic and mobility surgery on rescued orphan Kalpana who had been very badly burnt on her torso when she was seven. With incredible generosity, David not only operated for free but also paid the hospital costs. He visited the homes in Kathmandu several times and became a trustee in 2016. David studied medicine at Downing College, Cambridge, and King's College Hospital, London, qualifying in 1984. He trained in General Surgery, Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery for five years before starting his career in Plastic Surgery in some of the premier units of London and the US. He retired from the NHS in May 2016 after 32 years of service. He continues to teach and regularly goes to Nepal where he provides both teaching and surgery.
